Students from years 7 to 12 from John Tonkin College participate in the Follow the Dream/Partnerships for Success program. The program is supported by Wesfarmers, the Education Department of WA and the Sara Halvedene Foundation.
UWA Student Wins 2014 Law Scholarship
A 21 year-old Indigenous Law/Arts student at The University of Western Australia is one of two national winners of the Law Council of Australia’s 2014 John Koowarta Reconciliation Law Scholarship.
Ms Laura Vincent, traditionally of the Maluigal/Maoilgal Clan of the Torres Strait Islands, is in her fourth year of a six-year double degree. She now lives in Mandurah and her ambition is to help ensure Aboriginal people are always treated fairly in the legal justice system.
Graduate now Working with Children
Hard work, volunteering and focusing on her goals has seen John Tonkin College graduate Rebecca Pearson achieve her dreams to graduate high school and work with children. Rebecca joined the Follow the Dream/Partnerships for Success program as a Year 11 student when she came to the College in 2011. Follow the Dream/Partnerships for Success Mandurah co-ordinator Andrea Tacko said Rebecca was already showing qualities of being a caring individual with a genuine concern for those less fortunate when she joined the program.
