Primary school aged students in Alice Springs have the opportunity to participate in either the Bradshaw Learning Club or the Gillen Learning Club. Students enrolled on these programs are often affectionately called ‘Little Pollys’ after the namesake of the Foundation, AFL legend Polly Farmer.
The Bradshaw Learning Club is open to students in Years 3 – 6 who attend Bradshaw and Larapinta primary schools. Students can attend the Club after-school on two afternoons a week at Bradshaw Primary School.
The Gillen Learning Club is open to students in Years 4 – 6 who attend Gillen, Braitling, and Sadadeen primary schools. The Club operates after-school on two afternoons a week at Gillen Primary School.
The Bradshaw and Gillen Learning Clubs provide literacy and numeracy support for younger pupils. The Clubs incorporate fun and interactive activities designed to improve school attendance, enrich academic performance, and celebrate culture and heritage. The focus on personal development improves both educational and social skills as children progress through primary school and into secondary school.
The dedicated Program Coordinators at each Club, supported by teams of experienced tutors, deliver programs that interweave educational and socially-orientated activities in a rich, fun and encouraging learning environment. Parents, carers and the local community regularly join the students and contribute to the learning activities.
The Australian Government’s Indigenous Advancement Strategy proudly supports the Alice Springs Learning Clubs.
