Broome’s Follow the Dream program, known locally as Walarba Bugarri, operates at Broome Senior High School and St Mary’s College. Together, the sites cater for approximately 130 secondary students from Broome and the wider Kimberley region.

Since the program’s inception in 2006, secondary school students in the local area have received academic and mentoring support, as well as cultural enrichment and career planning.

The program offers an annual Culture Camp held over four days with lots of fishing, camping and crabbing. The camps are an opportunity to discover more about the program and build relationships with mentors and fellow Follow The Dream students. An end-of-year University Trip to Perth is also available and gives students a taste of university and city life.

The program at Broome has an emphasis on preparing students to undertake an ATAR or combined ATAR/VET course where possible in upper school.

There are long-standing relationships between the Broome program and WA universities, with many students going on to complete a degree.

Students in the program also benefit from skilled vocational training opportunities that arise through the program’s partnership with Woodside Ltd.

Since the program was established in 2006, it has received support and funding from an array of partners, including Woodside, the Browse Project Partners, Broome Senior High School, St Mary’s College, and the WA Department of Education.
