The Learning Club in Tom Price is held in the art room at Tom Price Primary School and acts as a learning hub for around 25 to 30 Aboriginal students in Years 1 – 6.
The Learning Club is open to students in the local community, including students from as far afield as Kalgoorlie and Derby.
The Program Coordinator, with the support of a team of specialist tutors, runs a creative program with hands-on activities centred on literacy and maths skills. The Centre fosters an encouraging environment and builds students’ confidence and personal development. Regular contact is maintained with class teachers in order to celebrate students’ successes and to identify gaps in students’ learning.
Students are encouraged to foster positive relationships with each other and their tutors, acting as positive role models for the school and community. The students are well represented in art exhibitions around the town and within the state.
The Learning Club was established in 2012 with the support of Rio Tinto.
