Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are celebrated in this year’s NAIDOC Week, which runs from July 8-15. The theme, Because of Her, We Can, recognises the active and significant roles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have played in Australian society and politics.
Sue Gordon was WA’s first Aboriginal magistrate, serving at the Children’s Court of WA for 20 years. During this time she did her law degree at the University of WA, encouraged by her late husband and two sons.
